Activity Amusement & Adventure

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!

How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

From the heights of hope to the depths of despair, God has carried us through the shadows, and graciously lifted us into the sunshine again. Praise His name!

Encouraged by the positive prognosis shared on my October blog post, we plunged into activity, optimistically facing the daily ups and downs.(this post) After barely two weeks, pain arose in Geoff’s left side which gradually worsened until it became entirely debilitating. (Meandering Medical Musings) Amazingly, recent changes in treatment have achieved the best outcome healthwise since Geoff’s diagnosis. (Liver Mets Lead to Lorlatinib)

Activity Amusement & Adventure

Two months ago, unpredictable episodes of mild delirium were continuing to impact Geoff’s thinking and his ability to approach and complete tasks.

Entering into his sense of uselessness or frustration was heart-rending:
“I'm tidying up stuff in the car. The trouble is I keep forgetting to bring up stuff that I don't want in the car. It's annoying that I keep forgetting that I keep forgetting.”

"I didn't know what I was doing last week." "I don't know what I'm doing most of the time."

Yet, determined to be useful, Geoff finished the car sorting and printed current maps of mobile reception areas in the remote outback just-in-case!

With the final coat of paint on the grandchildren's slide, Geoff launched into other doable projects. We enjoyed the teamwork which involved my hands to operate the hammer drill or my eyes to check the painting that he couldn’t see clearly or my driving for the inevitable trips to Bunnings!

During one most unusual day, Geoff seemed to find amusement in almost everything so there was much laughter and joviality in the absence of logic! Capitalising on the situation, one of our enterprising offspring came up with a ‘truth test’:
Which son would you save if we were all in a fire and you could only save one of us - you have to answer by the time I count to 3?”
Although initially wary, the pressure of a countdown elicited an answer: Xxxx
Resounding laughter instantly filled the room!

Canoeing down the Shoalhaven River together has been a long-held dream that Geoff shared with me after his diagnosis. Such an expedition is not for the faint-hearted and I confess to a certain level of anxiety whilst deeply wanting to be involved in the realisation of my husband’s dreams.
Stage one for any safe and successful adventure is planning. So we set off to explore Kangaroo Valley, chat with experts and familiarise ourselves with the launch and landing points.

Our 500km outing was such a lovely day together: new memories, minimal pain, essential information, ready to tackle the logistics and patiently wait for the ideal river level!
